Itinerary:
We will hike up to the Stone Fort on Maryland Heights. Along the way, we’ll read the historical markers and hopefully take in some awesome fall foliage views on top of the Heights. After the fort, we’ll continue back down to the scenic overlook with its views of the town of Harper’s Ferry. Then, we will take a trail into Harper’s Ferry and head out on one the historical hikes in town. After that, we might take in the John Brown Museum, time and energy permitting.

The hiking is not too bad, about 7-8 miles in all. However, the hike up to the Stone Fort is initially very steep.

Itinerary:

8:45-9:00am meet at Rte 32/Broken Land Parkway Park and Ride in Columbia, MD (we'll meet in the parking lot on the east side of Broken Land Parkway)

9:00am Drive to Harper's Ferry

10:30am Head out on the hike

2:00pm Finish the hike and head home

3:30 Return to the Park and Ride

In a few miles, take the exit for Rte 67 Boonsboro, but at the exit ramp, take a left which takes you back over Rte 340 and eventually dumps you back out on Rte 340 North; once on Rte 340 North, take an immediate right on an unmarked road (the road is Keep Tryst Road); follow that road for about a mile, then take a left onto Sandy Hook Road; continue on Sandy Hook for 2.2 miles and park in parking lots on the side of the road.
