On this approximately 4.0 to 5.0 mile hike, we'll follow parts of the C&O canal path for about half of the hike, and the Billy Goat Trail for the other half. We'll start out for 0.5 mile on the C&O canal path, which will lead us to the start of the Billy Goat Trail. The moderate to difficult Billy Goat Trail, about 2 miles of the hike, is known for its rocky climbs, ups and downs, and spectacular views. We'll break for our packed lunches (bring your own) after the Billy Goat Trail is near completion and somewhere with great views of the rock climbers across the Potomac River.

After lunch, we'll take a very worthwhile side trip to view Great Falls (if a majority is interested - it's only a total of another mile on very flat grade), then we'll finish out the loop by returning to the cars on the C&O canal path for about 2 miles.

The MOC also asks that you leave your mobile phone at home or in your vehicle during the hike.
