Itinerary:
We’ll be more or less following one of the walkabouts developed by Walk Arlington and focusing on “George Washington’s Forest,” part of a 1200-acre tract of land Washington bought in 1775. With a little imagination, remains of the Colonial era can be glimpsed along the route. Although the walk will be in an urban area, much of it will be along recreational and park paths, such as the Washington & Old Dominion and Four-mile Run Trails, so we’ll be surrounded by greenery.

Along the way, stops will include the site of a mill built by Washington’s step grandson, the Long Branch Nature Center , and the Ball-Sellers House, a middle class home from the mid-18th century. Total distance will be about 4 miles.

Post walk, there will be an optional late lunch at Atlacatl, a nearby Tex-Mex/Salvadorian restaurant. Think warm and mushy pupusas, burritos, and cold Tecate beer.
