Itinerary:
Let the cold weather invigorate you, and come backpacking with the MOC.

We'll hike from headquarters along the Pine Lick and Long Pond trails for about 11 miles starting on saturday morning at about 10 am. We'll camp out close to the C & O cannal and come back the opposite way on sunday.

Greenridge State Forest is very scenic and not too visited.

The topography is hilly with some scrambling required at a couple of spots. Topos can be ordered at 301-478-3124

Required Items to Bring:
Winter backpacking gear (do not bring cotton)

Backpack
Synthetic thermal wicking layers for upper and lower body
Synthetic fleece jacket or wool sweater
Synthetic fleece pants
Windproof/waterproof jacket
Windproof/waterproof pants/bibs
Thick wool or synthetic socks (bring extra)
Hat
Balaclava or face mask
Insulated, waterproof gloves
Mittens
Insulated, waterproof footwear
Gaiters
Sunglasses
Sunscreen
Sturdy winter tent
Winter sleeping bag
Sleeping pad
Stove and fuel (can be shared; must work at low temperatures. If it is necessary to melt snow that can take much gas if ití»s cold)
At least two fire starting sources (e.g. storm-proof matches and flint)
Pot
Headlamp w extra batteries
Snacks: powerbars, trailmix etc
Freeze dried meals or similar
Breakfast: oatmeal or similar, tea, hot chocolate etc
Nalgene bottles (with wide mouth)
Toilet paper
Plastic whistle

How to Get There:
Event Directions:From Washington, D.C./Baltimore: Take I-70 west to I-68 west. Take exit #64 (M.V. Smith Road). Make a right onto M.V. Smith Road. The Headquarters Drive is on the right after crossing I-68.
