Itinerary:
This is a lengthy, 13 mile hike on the Appalachian trail at Gathland State Park/Weverton Cliffs. There is a minor elevation gain at the beginning followed by a 700 ft. climb in less than a mile. The maximum elevation on this hike is 750 feet. The views are outstanding and on a clear day you can see Harpersferry beyond the U.S. 340 bridge that crosses the Potomac. The hiking trail is just outside the historic village of Burkittsville made famous by the 1999 "documentary" horror film, The Blair Witch Project. This hike is also the site of an important civil war battle (Battle of South Mountain) which culminated in the Battle of Antietam some 3 days later. So, join us for the great workout and the spectacular views.

Please note that this is a rather long hike and it is not recommended for beginners.

Required Items to Bring:
-minimum of 2 to 3 liters of water
-lunch/snacks,
-rain gear

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Take I-70W (from Baltimore, DC area). Take Exit 16 toward Frederick. Merge onto US-340 W via EXIT 52 toward CHARLES TOWN / LEESBURG. Take the MD-17 N exit toward BURKITTSVILLE. Turn LEFT onto W MAIN ST.. W MAIN ST becomes GAPLAND RD. Park at Gathland Park.
