Itinerary:
Please join the MOC for a 9.6 mi. hike on the Appalachain Trail. We will be crossing through the Thompson Wildlife area, which is noted for its Wildflowers in Early Spring:
Here, hikers and wildflower lovers stake as much a claim to the beautiful surroundings as do outdoorsmen. There is an abundance of wildflowers--the area is believed to harbor the largest population of large-flowered trillium in North America. Virginia's Native Plant Society lists the Thompson WMA on its register of important native plant sites.

The trailhead is Ashby Gap, where US 50 crosses the Appalachian Trail. We will gradually gain 900 ft, going through the beautiful Sky Meadows State Park and the Thompson Wildlife Management Area. At mile point 4.8, we will eat lunch at the Dick's Dome Shelter and turn around back to Ashby Gap.

Required Items to Bring:
- Footwear for rocky terrain
- Review the MOC's hiking checklist for appropriate equipment
- Packed lunch
- Plenty of water (at least 2 liters)
