Itinerary:
This is 43-44 mile bike ride on the Northern Central Railroad Trail (NCRT) also known as the York County Heritage Trail in Pennsylvania. Average biking speed: 13-15mph brbr We'll be starting near Freeland, MD about 1.5 miles south of the Mason Dixon line. From there we'll head north into PA on the NCRT/YCHT. Along the way we'll enjoy nice scenery including old rail stations, rural countrysides and an abandoned train tunnel.. The PA section has a few more towns to pass through then the MD section and several places to stop for water. brbr My recollection is that the PA section is very well maintained and is a smoother/nicer ride then the MD section is. According to the web site we'll be heading on a slight downhill to York and a slight up hill on the way back (New Freedom, PA being the highest point, just inside PA). brbr The end of the NCRT in downtown York is 2-3 blocks from the Farmer's Market and also the Chamber of Commerce/ Visitor's Center. We could lock our bikes and walk along Market Street to have a sit-down lunch or bring packed lunches. After a lunch and some rest we'll head back south into MD. brbr More info can be found a href="http://bikewashington.org/trails/ncr/ych-s.htm" target="_blank"here/a and a href="http://bikewashington.org/trails/ncr/ych-n.htm" target="_blank"here/a.
