We did this trip last year and it was amazing, if you enjoy whitewater rafting this is a trip you don't want to miss! If you do early registration, and pay by March 20th, you will save 15% and pay $77. When you register just call 800-472-3846 and say your are with "Douglas Hanford's" party and give invoice number "P9668". Please do this within two weeks of making your RSVP or I will assume you no longer want to attend the event, and will take you off the list.
This is a great chance for those who have always wanted to try whitewater rafting, and for those who have gone before, to spend an afternoon testing their skills on class II,III, and IV whitewater. This is a fully guided trip with Laurel Highland Outfitters (I have used them elven times with no problems) down one of the most popular rivers on the east coast.
The mighty Cheat River in Albright, West Virginia boasts an ever-changing flow, making each experience on this river unique. From April through June, you can run the largest free-flowing Class IV and V river in the East with one of our experienced guides in your raft coaching you all along the way.
Put your skills to the test on Cheat Canyon as you travel through Big Nasty, High Falls and Coliseum rapids, experiencing this West Virginia classic. We will meet at our outpost on the banks of the river in Albright, WV. All you need is a passion for the outdoors and a desire to enjoy one of the classic whitewater runs in the East. Shuttle transportation and a riverside deli-style lunch are included.
We will be meeting at the Park and Ride at I-695 and I-70 and carpooling to Albright, Wv which is about a three hour drive. The river is considered one of the best rafting rivers on the east coast, but because there is a guide in each boat, it can be appreciated by novices as well as those with experience. This a not a dam controlled river, so it is at the mercy of rain and snow melt, so the length or the trip, and rating of the rapids, is always changing. The trip should take from 4-6 hours, with rapids ranging from class II, III, IV and a couple of V's. We will need to be at the outfitters by 10:30 so we can board the buses for a 11:00 rafting time. After the trip we will stop at a local restaurant for some well earned dinner and drinks. We should be back at the Park and Ride by 9:00. You do NOT need any prior experience to go on this trip, nor do you have to be a strong swimmer.
Because we are doing this trip on a Sunday, and are booking early in the season, we are getting a discount. The 77$(early registration discount) includes Paypal fees, as well as the cost of the rafting trip. If you wish to rent a wet suit, those will be extra and costs can be found on the website. This is a rain or shine event, and NO refunds will be given once you have paid your money! You MUST pay the 77$ fee with Paypal upon registration, I have to pay the outfitters out of my own account so I will only register people who have paid me first. This 15% discount price is ONLY available for the early bird registration, which will last until March 14th! After that you may still register, if they have availability, but you will only receive the 10% discount.
As of now this is a day trip, like we did last year, but I would consider going up on Saturday and camping if people are interested.
