We will be hiking to Maryland Heights at Harper's Ferry, West Virginia.  This is a moderately strenuous hike, but definitely doable for someone in reasonable shape.  Unless the forecast is for pouring rain, I do plan to do the hike, because usually it's still worth it.  We'll then eat lunch in a restaurant in town, likely Hannah's Train Depot, in Harper's Ferry.

Please note that the miles are approximate, but should be more or less For those bringing dogs, please note that we will be using a short metal staircase (there's railings and such), but dogs don't like it because they can see through to the ground below.  You might have to carry your dog up (and down) this short staircase.

2 Liters of Water, snack for the hike.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

We'll be meeting at the NPS visitor center, which is not in downtown Harpers Ferry, but is a short distance away. 

There's a free shuttle from the visitor center to the town/park. 

The location of the visitor center is 171 Shoreline Drive, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425.

Directions Washington Area

To get there, from the Washington area, you should take I-495 to I-270 north, and take that to Frederick, where you will get onto I-70 west very briefly.  Then, follow the "Combined Directions" below.

Directions From Baltimore

Coming from Baltimore, you will take I-70 West, then follow "Combined Directions" below.

Combined Directions

Continue west on I-70 past Frederick for about 1 mile

Take Exit #52 onto U.S. Route 340 (Charles Town and Leesburg exit)

Continue south/west on U.S. Route 340 to Harpers Ferry (22 miles)

Cross the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers

After crossing second bridge (Shenandoah River) proceed to stoplight at top of hill. Turn left into the main entrance of the park.
