Itinerary:

A short (6 miles, for both loops), and relatively easy (moderate hill and dale, not particularly rocky terrain); suitable for most hiking ability levels.

Come explore one of Maryland's Natural Environmental Areas.  Explore a serpentine bald, then cross the road and follow the trails past a colonial-era chorminum mine, and alongside a slow moving creek.

More on the park itslef:  " Soldiers Delight Natural Environment Area (NEA) is comprised of 1,900 acres of serpentine barren. The area has over 39 rare, threatened, or endangered plant species as well as rare insects, rocks and minerals. Rare grassland plant species are threatened by invasion of Virginia Pines. Currently, a five year effort of removing 1,000 acres of pines and prescribed burning are underway to return the area to natural serpentine habitat."

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

From I-695 take I-795N via exit 19 toward Owings Mills/Reisterstown. Take exit 7B on Franklin Blvd. west. Turn right on Church Road, left on Berrysman Lane, then left on Deer Park Road. We'll meet in the parking area at  the visitors' center.

My best guess is that the address here is 5100 Deer Park Road Owings Mills Md.

Most GPS units direct you to a parking area alongside Deer Park Rd....that is not the meeting spot.  From that lot, look down the road about 75 yards, for a drive/turnonff (There will be a signboard).  That leads to the visitors' center.
