Note: This is an EXPLORATORY trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, then there is an increased chance of things not going as planned, and as such, you need to be prepared for such. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.
Itinerary:

For this trip you just need to call 1 (800) 472 3846, and make the reservation directly.  Please tell the person you are going on the May 18th trip on the Cheat River, with Doug Hanford.  You will get 10% off till May 1st. As of now there are 12 people going from the Meetups.

This is a great chance for those who have always wanted to try whitewater rafting, and for those who have gone before, to spend an afternoon testing their skills on class II,III, and IV whitewater.  This is a fully guided trip with Laurel Highland Outfitters (I have used them elven times with no problems) down one of the most popular rivers on the east coast.

The mighty Cheat River in Albright, West Virginia boasts an ever-changing flow, making each experience on this river unique. From April through June, you can run the largest free-flowing Class IV and V river in the East with one of our experienced guides in your raft coaching you all along the way.

Put your skills to the test on Cheat Canyon as you travel through Big Nasty, High Falls and Coliseum rapids, experiencing this West Virginia classic. We will meet at our outpost on the banks of the river in Albright, WV. All you need is a passion for the outdoors and a desire to enjoy one of the classic whitewater runs in the East. Shuttle transportation and a riverside deli-style lunch are included.

We will be meeting at the Park and Ride at I-695 and I-70 and carpooling to Albright, Wv which is about a three hour drive.  The river is considered one of the best rafting rivers on the east coast, but because there is a guide in each boat, it can be appreciated by novices as well as those with experience.  This a not a dam controlled river, so it is at the mercy of rain and snow melt, so the length or the trip, and rating of the rapids, is always changing.  The trip should take from 4-6 hours, with rapids ranging from class II, III, IV and a couple of IV's.  We will need to be at the outfitters by 10:30 so we can board the buses for a 11:00 rafting time.  After the trip we will stop at a local restaurant for some well earned dinner and drinks.   We should be back at the Park and Ride by 9:00.  You do NOT need any prior experience to go on this trip, nor do you have to be a strong swimmer.

Because we are doing this trip on a Sunday, and are booking early in the season, we are getting a discount.  The 80$ includes Paypal fees, as well as the cost of the rafting trip.  If you wish to rent a wet suit, those will be extra and costs can be found on the website.  This is a rain or shine event, and NO refunds will be given once you have paid your money!  You MUST pay the 80$ fee with Paypal upon registration, I have to pay the outfitters out of my own account, so I will only register people who have paid me first.  This discount price is ONLY available for the early bird registration, which will last for two weeks after the posting of this event!  After that you may still register, if they have availability, but the price will be slightly higher.

As of now this is a day trip, like we did last year, but I would consider going up on Saturday and camping if people are interested.

Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):360Mile(s)
Carpool Departure Time: 6:45 am
Carpool Location:   Log in for location
Carpool Directions:   Log in for directions
Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $144.00 (calculated at total miles (360) * $0.400, effective Sunday, February 17, 2019). This is based on the current gas, maintenance, and other costs of $0.400 per mile as stated by the IRS & Cars.com. This should be divided by the total number of people in the vehicle (incl driver).
For example: With 4 people in the vehicle, the expense per person on this trip would be $36.00. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.

Additional advice: The cost of your trip is up to your driver. Your cost should not be greater than what is listed above, unless there is extenuating circumstances. If you want to be sure about the cost of the trip, check with your driver before you get into the vehicle. If you are the driver of the vehicle, this is a guideline to what you charge and not a rule.
