Not the most challenging hike around, but one with some impressive overlooks/ views. And a decent introduction to the Appilachain Trail in Maryland. (~4 miles out and back 4 back).
As usualy, hike taken from www.hikingupward.com. The hiking desription can be found here: http://www.hikingupward.com/OMH/AnnapolisRockBlackRockCliff/. Also note the link on the page, which will give you Google Maps directions to the parking lot. This lot is located off the shoulder of a rurual section of US--rte 40-- there is no address to feed into a GPS.
"The Annapolis Rock/Black Rock Cliff hike on the Appalachian Trail, is one of the most popular in Maryland, and for good reason. The views from both lookouts are spectacular on a clear day. From Annapolis Rock the vista is to the southeast and Greenbrier Lake, and from Black Rock Cliff a 180 degree panorama west"......
In keeping with my normal philosphy that "a tired dog is a happy dog"- leashed dogs welcome. But: keep an eye on the temperature/humidity....this is still August; mine typically stay home when it's too hot out there.
|How to Get There:|
|Event Directions:||About 65 miles west of downtown Baltimore. Route 70W to Rte 17 N (exit 42); to US 40 West. Parking lot is about three miles up thr road, once you oin US40.
