Note: This is an EXPLORATORY trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, then there is an increased chance of things not going as planned, and as such, you need to be prepared for such. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.
Itinerary:

Join me for an exploration hike of SNP's Hogback Mountain, as described on www.hikingupwardhttp://www.hikingupward.com/SNP/HogbackMountain/   While I've done some hikes in SNP, this trail is new to me.

The website trail writeup has a googlemaps link which will take you to the trailhead off Skyline Dr; alterntavirely,we can carpool from Savage MARC station.

From the trail writeup:  The Hogback Mountain hike, with its spectacular views west towards the Massanutten ranges, is located in an area of the SNP that has several beautiful hikes including Piney Branch and Little Devil Stairs. With just over 1,200ft of vertical gain and 7.5 miles, this is a pleasant moderate day hike.  . Note that the trail si ~ 8 miles, with about 1200 feet elevation gain.  I'd recommend taking a look at the elevation profile on the wrtiteup, before deciding whether to come.

Dogs welcome on this trip. Be mindful of your pet's condtion if you decide to bring him/ her.

Required Items to Bring:

Hiking boots. Recommend at least one change of socks. Winter weather appropraite hiking clothing; NO COTTON! Water, snacks for trail. Cash ($10 per car) for SNP wintertime entrance fee. Cash for gas money if you carpool.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

A download/ printout of the trail map and description of the trail off the hikingupward website; always good to read ahead. Camera. The writeup mentions several beautiful overlooks. money for optional post hike lunch in the area. Thinking either Thorton River Grille or Griffin Tavern.

How to Get There:
Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):240Mile(s)
Carpool Departure Time: 8:00 am
Carpool Location:   Log in for location
Carpool Directions:   Log in for directions
Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $96.00 (calculated at total miles (240) * $0.400, effective Saturday, February 16, 2019). This is based on the current gas, maintenance, and other costs of $0.400 per mile as stated by the IRS & Cars.com. This should be divided by the total number of people in the vehicle (incl driver).
For example: With 4 people in the vehicle, the expense per person on this trip would be $24.00. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.

Additional advice: The cost of your trip is up to your driver. Your cost should not be greater than what is listed above, unless there is extenuating circumstances. If you want to be sure about the cost of the trip, check with your driver before you get into the vehicle. If you are the driver of the vehicle, this is a guideline to what you charge and not a rule.
