This not a hike to get in shape; you must be in shape before you start.

This is a strenuous hike with an elevation gain of more than 2000 ft in 2.5 miles.  It involves rock scrambles, including lifting oneself though narrow rock chutes and walking on ledges with substantial drop-off and no safety features.  From the summit, it's a moderate 5+ mile hike back on fire roads.  We may do a side trip to balance rock on the return leg.

We'll eat lunch at the peak.  Afterward there will be a local late afternoon dinner/social hour stop.

Be prepared for sudden weather changes and temperature drops on the mountain. If you bring hiking poles, they should be inside your pack or strapped to your pack for the climb otherwise they just get in the way.

Mid-Atlantic Hikes has a feature to make a Google driving map to the park's parking lot.  another site that describes the hike in detail.

Car pool is from Baltimore

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $100.00 (calculated at total miles (250) * $0.400, effective Thursday, February 21, 2019). This is based on the current gas, maintenance, and other costs of $0.400 per mile as stated by the IRS & This should be divided by the total number of people in the vehicle (incl driver).
For example: With 4 people in the vehicle, the expense per person on this trip would be $25.00. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.

Additional advice: The cost of your trip is up to your driver. Your cost should not be greater than what is listed above, unless there is extenuating circumstances. If you want to be sure about the cost of the trip, check with your driver before you get into the vehicle. If you are the driver of the vehicle, this is a guideline to what you charge and not a rule.

Fair weather only.  This is no place to hike when it's cold, wet  and slippery.

There is no cell phone coverage in the trail head parking lot or on the lower 1/3 of the mountain.
