This hike was first done by Kim Buhrman and Sarah Dannenfelser Aug 5, 2006 (event #566).

This is my first hosted event of the year, so I thought it would be nice to bring it back.

Join us for a 9.25 mile hike through Gunpowder Falls State Park. The trail begins as a gravel and dirt path along the Gunpowder River and then climbs the side of the river valley on single track trails. We will begin on the Wildlands Trail and will hike through a forest of tall, straight, large beech trees, jack-in-the-pulpits, and white tailed deer. We will follow the Wildlands Trail to the Stocksdale Trail and onto the Sweathouse Trail. These trails will lead us through an old homestead site and a pine plantation before returning to the river.

Next, we will take a short side trail to what is probably the prettiest part of the hike. Here we will find a refreshing wading or swimming hole where we will take a break, cool down, and relax on the rocks. You might want to wear a bathing suit so you can enjoy the coolness of the water before continuing the hike.

From the swimming hole we will take the Big Gunpowder Trail back to the parking lot which is the midpoint of the hike. We will cross through the parking lot and hike along the Big Gunpowder Trail to the Sawmill and Lost Pond Trails. We will follow the Big Gunpowder Trail back to the parking lot. On our way we will pass by pot rocks, which are circular depressions made in the river rocks by swirling water.

We might also go out after the hike for lunch.
