Itinerary:
This 11 mile hike descends off the east ridge of the park, down to the Thornton River. It will then ascend back up to the main ridgeline via the Fork Mountain/Piney Ridge trails to Range View Cabin, where we will stop and have lunch. We'll then turn south on the Appalachian Trail, and take that (and the Neighbor Mountain Trail) all the way back to the parking lot. A large portion of the AT that we do is the section that runs above Jeremy's Run.

Please be aware that although none of the hills are impossible, there are significant uphill climbs throughout this hike. For those interested we will most likely stop for a post hike meal at the Panera in Warrenton before heading back to Vienna.

Required Items to Bring:
At least 2.5 liters of water, lunch, and rain gear. We will likely not hike if it is pouring rain, but please be prepared for some rain nevertheless.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Snacks for the trail, first aid kit, hiking boots (highly recommended), and a camera.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Washington DC: Interstate 66 west to exit 43A, (US 29 south). Follow to Warrenton approx 15 mi, bear right onto US 211 and follow to Sperryville approx 27 mi. Continue on US 211, following signs to Skyline Drive north. Take Skyline Drive to just south of milepost 28. The parking area is a small lot on the right hand side of the road, just beyond the Beahms Gap Parking.
Baltimore: Interstate 95 south to I495 west (towards Silver Spring/Bethesda, not towards Richmond) then Interstate 66 and follow DC directions.

Notes:
I did this hike two years ago, but have not scouted it more recently. The hike might be slightly longer, but there are not that many turns to make, and the trails in Shenandoah are well marked.
