Itinerary:
Say what?!? Yes, now that I got your attention--can you handle hitting the ground against rocks so full of heavy metals the toxicity causes plants to lose their lunch? Yes? well, join us at Soldiers Delight, a MD Dept. of Natural Resources Natural Environmental Area. It's a place underlain by the uncommon serpentine rock. Serpentine is classified as "ultramafic" because of its very high metallic content and high pH (it's "basic" as opposed to acidic). Virginia pines, blackjack and post oaks dot a landscape interspersed with open grasslands. The thorny vine greenbrier twines in the understories. Fence lizards run amok.

Excited yet? I knew you would. Afterwards we'll head over to Green Turtle in Owings Mills or a similar such joint for refreshments.

Hike will be about 2.5 to 3 miles and last about 1.5 hours.

Please register by 3:30 PM the day of the event.

Event Directions:Soldiers Delight is reached via I-795, to Franklin Blvd. West, right at Church Road, left on Berrymans Lane, then left on Deer Park Road. Continue to the main entance on right (past the overlook parking area).
