Itinerary:

Join MOC for a hike at Sky Meadows Park, followed by a visit to nearby Hollin Farms to pick your own vegetables and fruit.

The hike will be a 7.9 mile* loop with ~2,100 feet of elevation change. The hike offers some great scenic views of the area, including the Piedmont Overlook. Sky Meadows was created on land donated to the state by philanthropist and local resident Paul Mellon who saved it from a planned upscale subdivision. The core area was farmland for three centuries. In fact, cows still roam parts of the park.

Make sure you bring plenty of water. We will also stop briefly for lunch/snacks.

After the hike, we’ll head to nearby Hollin Farms for pick-your-own fruits and vegetables. Peaches, sweet corn, and zucchini are on the picking schedule – cross your fingers that tomatoes will be ready for us!

Dogs are welcome at both Sky Meadows and at Hollin Farms, but they must be leashed.

(*Depending on heat and humidity, there is an option to shorten the hike to five miles. We can evaluate based on the weather and group interest.)
