|Put some air in those tires and some grease on those chains and join the MOC for a moderate bike ride. Maryland's Northern Central Railroad Trail (NCRT) extends 20 miles, stretching from Ashland Road in the Hunt Valley area to the state line. The trail is 10 feet wide with a stone dust surface. The most popular activities on the trail are hiking, jogging, bicycle riding and horseback riding. The trail is generally shady in the summer leaving only the humidity and other trail users as your only obstacles. Miles on the trail are marked beginning with mile 0 at Ashland. There are also large white numbered mile posts that are remnants of the days when the railroad passed by. There are other indications along the trail of the railroad as well. Note the large white "W" markers do not indicate water. They are railroad whistle signals.|
We will begin the tour at Paper Mill parking area and travel about 90 min down the trail, and then head back. Because it is a straight trail, with no hills to speak of, if anyone wants to go further or turn back early they are more then welcome to do so you cant get lost. We will be passing the Monkton Rd. area which features restrooms, water, telephones and picnic tables.
|How to Get There:|
