|This is a strenuous hike with an elevation gain of more than 2000 ft in 2.5 miles. It involves rock scrambles, including lifting oneself though narrow rock chutes and walking on ledges. From the summit, it's a moderate 5+ mile hike back on fire roads.|
We'll eat lunch at the peak. Afterward there will be a local late afternoon dinner stop at Panera in Warrenton.
Please be prepared for sudden weather changes and temperature drops on the mountain.
If you bring hiking poles, they should be inside your pack or strapped to your pack for the climb otherwise they just get in the way.
Mid-Atlantic Hikes has a feature to make a Google driving map to the park's parking lot.
Here's another site that describes the hike in detail.
|How to Get There:|
|Event Directions:||Washington DC: Interstate 66 West to exit 43A for U.S. 29. Follow to Warrenton approx 15 mi, bear right onto U.S. 211 and follow to Sperryville approx 27 mi. At Sperryville, left on U.S. 522 then quick right onto Virginia 231. Approximately 8 mi then right onto Virginia 602 (sign for Old Rag at turn) bear left on Virginia 707 then bear left again on Virginia 600 to parking lot.|

Unlike other hikes that MOC does, this hike will only occur if it is not raining. If it's raining, the rocks are too slippery and not safe to hike on, so the hike will likely be canceled.|
