Itinerary:
Get out for a bike ride along the Western Maryland Rail Trail (WMRT) from Big Pool, MD to Hancock, MD. The round trip distance is 21 miles. We will start at the Big Pool Trail Head parking lot. This is located approximately a half mile South of the Fort Frederick, Big Pool exit of US Route 70 (Exit 12). The paved bike trail is built on the abandoned Western Maryland Railway. It is a nearly flat and mostly shaded ride through the mountains with scenic vistas and historical markers. Upon arriving at Hancock, MD, we will lunch at Weaver’s Restaurant and Bakery (known for their selection of pies). We will stop a couple of times along the way to rest and enjoy the scenery.

Parking at the trailhead can be competitive so carpooling with MOC members is encouraged. The Park n Ride located north of I-70 on Route 32 in West Friendship will be our carpool location.
