Itinerary:
This is a pleasant hike from Carderock to Billy Goat Trail A, then to the Visitor's Center where we will pick up the Gold Mine Loop Trail, to Anglers Spur, then back to Carderock on the C&O canal. The total round trip is around 8.5 miles. We can make a 0.5 mile detour to see the Great Falls, but at this time of the year, it's not so great.

The following is a quick trail route:

Carderock to Billy Goat Trail A = 2.4 miles (easy)
Billy Goat Trail A = 1.7 miles (moderate)
Billy Goat Trail A to Gold Mine Loop = 0.3 (easy)
Gold Mine Loop and Anglers Spur = 2.0 (easy)
Anglers Spur to Carderock = 2.0 (easy)

This hike is rated moderate because of the length and slight rock scrambling on the Billy Goat Trail.

You need to wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots due to the rock scrambling and rock hopping.

I will stop at various junction points to re- gather the group. If you bounce ahead, you're on your own. See the following websites for more info.
