Itinerary:
Several years ago, Paul and I organized one of the longest and most memorable (so I’m told) events at Codorus State Park in Hanover, PA. While this event isn’t quite the same and not nearly as long, we’re hoping it will be just as fun. Codorus State Park is one of the prettiest parks in Pennsylvania (though I may be a bit biased since it’s my local park) and it’s main attracting point is the 1,275 acre Lake Marburg with 26 miles of shoreline. Here’s our planned itinerary for the day:
10:00am: Naturalist Led Kayak Tour: The trip is a 90 minute leisurely paddle around the coves of Lake Marburg to quietly witness wildlife along the water’s edges. There are special sunning boxes built for turtles and bald eagles have recently been spotted along with osprey, geese, heron and other waterfowl. Cost is $15/person (cash only please) and includes kayak rental, life vest, paddle, waterproof binoculars and guide fee. As an extra bonus, a portion of the cost will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
11:30a.m.: Biking/Lunch/Ice Cream: We’ll start with a road bike ride hitting the scenic highlights of Hanover. Be warned that there will be some hills, but we’ll keep the pace casual and take breaks at various spots for everyone to catch up. Approximate distance is 15 miles and cue sheets will be provided. Around mile 12, we’ll stop at York Street Treats. You can refuel with sandwiches or dessert…I highly recommend the soft-serve raspberry ice cream dipped in chocolate. After our rest stop, there’s an optional detour to the Snyder’s Pretzel Factory Store for those who want to shop. Yes, Hanover is the snack food capital and home to Utz’s, Snyder’s and several other pretzel factories.
3:00pm: Hike: After finishing our bike ride, we will drive to the Bankert Road trailhead for a 3-4 mile hike, where we’ll explore trails which vary from singletrack, grass trails and a jeep road. Highlights will include view of the Lake and a church/graveyard.

***Please be sure to bring a bike lock as we will be leaving the bikes unattended during the hiking and kayaking portions of this event.***
