Sun, Nov 30 2008 - Jive Turkey Hike (View Original Event Details)|
|Participants:||John Putman, doug hanford, michael thomey, Faron Hice|
Four manly men met up at the Gunpowder parking lot in a cold drizzle. Hesitant to leave the cocoon of our warm cars, we eventually emerged and went through introductions. We decided to cut the original distance short and keep to the Gunpowder South Trail.
Wet is the word to describe the hike. While in good shape, the trail was soggy. It was still pretty cold so early in the day, so there were actually patches of ice here and there on logs and near water crossings. Like men on a mission, we plowed through the treacherous parts. We did pause, however, every so often to take in the scenery and converse lightly.
As the rain grew heavy, our pace increased. Our breaks became shorter and shorter. The chatter that had accompanied our group fell away in the chill air until only the breathing of the men could be heard.
Under drenching rain, we came upon our cars once again. We arrived soggy but satisfied. Though not ideal conditions, we had fun and got in a good workout. We also savored making fun of the wimps who cancelled out of the hike.
