The trip was scheduled to be a fairly moderate loop in Shenandoah National Park. I emailed the group on Friday that Skyline Drive was closed and the intended trip would not be possible. All participants wanted to go somewhere.

We met at the final carpool location and perused maps and books and decided on Ramsey's Draft, a Wilderness Area in Virginia.

We arrived at the trail head in the Mountain House parking area and were greeted to a winter wonderland. There was a light dusting of snow with ice sparkling like crystal from the trees. We proceeded to climb steadily up the Shenandoah Mountain Trail and to arrive at the campsite at Hiner Spring around 4 pm. Shelters were erected, wood gathered, and meals were prepared with all participants acting as a team. The night was quite cold with temps reaching into the low 20's.

We awoke to a crisp Sunday morning. Everyone worked efficiently to pack, prepare breakfast, and break camp by 9:15am. The hike down from the mountain on the Bald Ridge Trail had one awesome vista after another. The hike was longer than expected due to a slight detour to Camp Todd and then regain the elevation back to the ridge. The final part of the hike was a stream crossing. The stream had become a small river due to snow melt and recent rainfall. Everyone was able to cross the stream, stay dry, and make it safely back to the car.

I could not have asked for a better crew for my first time leading a trip for the MOC. Overall, this was an experienced group of backpackers. The resumes among the participants included summiting Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helen's, Mt. Whitney, Mt. Washington, various mountains in South America, trekking in Sweden, Australia, and Thailand, backpacking in the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, and the Wind River, and thru-hiking the entire Appalachian Trail. I hope we can do other trips very soon!
