Despite the low turnout for our MOC group, the Rally for the River was a great time. Besides the chance to hike, bike, or skate the road normally reserved for cars, there was a festival with some food, music, and lots of info about the health of the river.
We rode straight downtown from the start at Cold Spring Lane, and pedaled very little on the mostly downhill 7 miles. We stopped at the end for photos and a talk with the history volunteer who told us about the Jones Falls in the 1650s and its role in shaping Baltimore today. Starting back uphill, we knew there would be several more photo opportunities and history stops, so we weren't concerned about the long uphill. We made the whole ~14 mile roundtrip in just about an hour and a half.
Beautiful weather for it - only 80 degrees at noon. There were lots of people out on all sorts of vehicles and feet - rollerblades, bikes including tandems, Razr-type scooters, tricycles, skateboards - but the highlight for me was definitely the two little kids on Big Wheels.
I definitely recommend this event next year or in two years if it has turned biannual!
