Write Up: Several of us were convinced that this hike would never happen. Three people canceled because they woke up to a hellacious thunder and lighting storm, and by 7:30 we were missing four participants. I spent the three hour ride from Vienna to Big Meadows convincing Bryan that it would be just as much fun to rent a huge room at the Lodge and sleep off our headaches. However, Bryan made it clear that we would hike no matter what.

Once we arrived at Big Meadows, our luck and moods began to change. We found Jenine, Justin, and Brian, and the sky was clearing up. Joe John arrived with barrels of energy and motivated us all the get moving.

The group hiked happily along to Dark Hollows Falls where we stopped for lunch and swimming. Sara and I educated Eric about hair care and Mark learned a valuable lesson about the outdoors.

Then we hiked on to the second falls just before a light rain shower hit us. We welcomed the rain and continued onward listening to Joe and Anya tease each other.

The rest of the group went forward to Louis Falls, the third and final waterfall. Jen Z and I happily skipped out of this opportunity for the opportunity to shower with the thru hikers and drink diet coke in the Tap Room. When the rest of the group arrived, we ate at Shenandoah's finest restaurant, The Lodge.

At 9:30 pm, some participants were ready to head back to Vienna, but a brave few decided to camp at Loft Mountain. There we learned that Justin is a mastermind at Apples to Apples, and it pays to never clean out your car.

The next day, despite our efforts to sabotage the hike, four brave souls set out to scout the route for our camping trip.

Bryan and I would like to thank you all for coming with us, and being so flexible. Hopefully all of your injuries will heal and you'll be able to join us in Sept.
