Sat, Jun 21 2008 - Creek kayak trip (View Original Event Details)|
|Participants:||Jerry Wright, Erin Lauria, Kristi Fair, Aimee Morris, Heather Keels, Rich Burner, Christine Larsen, Laurie Mactaggart|
The event went pretty much as planned. We unloaded kayaks at the MD34 bridge near Sharpsburg and spent about 40 minutes covering basics about kayaks, gear and safety. We put in and spent another 40 minutes doing basic drills. After lunch we headed down the creek through numerous pools and riffles. We stopped at the gauging station weir below Burnside bridge to learn how to use the current to ferry from side to side across the creek. Closer to the end we did some practice runs learing how to eddy out behind rocks. Furnace rapids at the end made for a good finish.
