Wed, Jun 18 2003 - Free Clinic on Hiking/Backpacking Supplies (View Original Event Details)|
|Participants:||Amy Pickwick, Ryan Meadows|
At this very informative free clinic at REI in Timonium, Eric, an REI employee, lead us around the store covering all the basics that go into a comfortable and safe hike or backpacking adventure. We started with the topic of clothes and layering. Eric discussed the proper types of materials to wear and stressed the importance of avoiding cotton in any type of activity. We discussed hiking boots and how to tell if they are right for you, breaking them in, and determining if they are better for hiking or backpacking - yes, there is a difference! Eric showed us backpacks and day packs and informed us of the proper way to determine if one is right for you (size, comfort, length of trip). We talked about sleeping bags, trekking poles, snacks, water, socks, and much more.
The MOC looks forward to more of these joint clinics with REI staff in the future. Please let me know
if there is ever a topic that you would like to have covered.
