Sat, Sep 15 2007 - Building a Zen Garden (View Original Event Details)|
|Participants:||Nayeli Garcia, Ruwan Alwis, Lisa Richard, Brandon Fey, Melinda Cianos, Dan DeVries|
The heavy rains from the night before took the pollen out of the air and made for a relatively cool morning. As far as our immediate group of four was concerned, perfect weather to be working outdoors. There were a few folks digging holes to plant a tree "privacy fence" near the edge of the park property, but we opted to go help where the other community groups were working. The City of Baltimore Recreation & Parks was planning to clear out a large 10-15ft. tall stand of invasive bamboo from this city park land to continue setting up a Zen Garden. We put on our nifty long sleeved t-shirts (provided by Struever Bros.) and took off with loppers and gloves to the bamboo thicket to help out. Everyone was able to work at a comfortable pace. The other groups were a friendly bunch and together we made short work in cutting away most of the bamboo forest. Apparently, four others from our MOC group were there hacking away at the bamboo, too. It's a shame we weren't able to hook up with them before taking off to the lunch down by Clipper Mill. Maybe we didn't see them, because the bamboo really was 15 ft. tall (in some spots)! Still eight attendees showing up from our group,...not bad!--speaks well of the MOC's conservation/community service efforts! Thanks for those who came out and helped! Hope to see the rest of you at the next one! :o)
