Two seasons later, we are able to complete the Sweet Air Loop at Gunpowder Falls State Park, in the most beautiful of weather (mid-70's, partly cloudy) - over the rain that fell in May, causing the event to be postponed until now.
We started out by all getting lost on our way to the parking lot (including the two of us that scouted the hike just the week prior). Once each person arrived, they joined the group for a packed lunch under the covered picnic shelter.
Just before 1 PM, we started off on the trail, the 13 of us plus one dog, Zena.
We mostly walked through cornfields and wooded areas, about half of the hike following Little Gunpowder Falls. We were delighted to find many posted 'sayings' throughout the park. All of the ones we came across are photographed below.
With Isabel just having blown through the area a week before our hike, we noticed a few downed trees, muddy paths, and blown down corn stalks.
During our longer break, we stopped to let Zena play in the water. She amazed the crowd with her high speed and 6 foot leap!
This is a great little hike that lasted about 2 hours, for anyone considering starting to hike for the first time. It's also a little bit out there (about 30 minutes from the North end of the Baltimore Beltway) so it's really peaceful and has nice scenery.
