Okay, so this wasn't one of my proudest moments. I decided I'd like to socialize a bit more with the group and handed the map and hike directions off to Mark (who scouted the trail with me a couple of weeks prior). Boy, was that a mistake! I guess my Mom never warned me to trust a man with a map!
Just kidding, Mark!
Well, turns out we ended up missing a turn from where the blue and white trails split apart, and ended up on the white trail for the entire hike. No big deal, they were almost the same length, with similar views, and both were loop hikes. Thank goodness we were prepared...we were about to whip out the compass, until we discovered one of our participants had a GPS system!
Four dogs joined us on this trek through the woods in Southern Maryland. Walter, the St. Bernard, was about the size of 3 or 4 dogs in himself - but was a gentle creature. And, Ellie decided to lead much of the hike.
All in all, this event went over well. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. The group, a decent size, and understanding of the situation on the trail. We'll make sure Mark sticks to planning "indoor" events for a little while, until we can get him acquainted with the blaze system on the trails. ;)
Definitely look out for this hike returning in late winter - we'll follow the blue trail next time, and I'll be leading - I promise!
