Nine hardy MOCers defied a rainy forecast to travel north of the Mason-Dixon line for a hike at Rocky Ridge. Their dedication was not in vain. Apart from the morning fog, it was a beautiful and unseasonably warm day.
When we reached Rocky Ridge's first observation deck, the sun had just emerged from the clouds. We witnessed the fog disperse in the valley before our eyes. Then, I offered the group a choice between an easier or more difficult section. Feeling adventurous, we chose the more difficult path. It wasn't really that bad except for a steep uphill climb.
We continued to a second overlook on the other side of the hill. There, we admired a clear view of the Susquehanna Valley for a few moments. For the rest of the hike, there were some twists and turns through the woods and a few more steep hills. Before we knew it, we were back at our cars. We covered six or seven miles in just over two hours.
Afterward, a few of us drove to downtown York for a tasty lunch at The White Rose. We enjoyed the food and had some lively conversation .
This was a great way to spend a late December day. Thanks to everyone who made the journey in spite of the holiday stress and ominous forecast.
Special thanks to Xavier Malfliet for taking the photos.
