I would like to thank everybody for coming
out. It was a good group and we had a good time.
Unfortunately is was very foggy in the morning and we weren't able
to enjoy the views from Buzzard Rock. Dominic and Saki
found some large rocks to perch from and take pictures. Some
of the group climbed up to join them. We descended to
Elizabeth Furnace i nthe valley. It's a very interesting part
of the history of the area. At one time the forest was
completely devoid of trees so that they could keep the furnace
burning to form pig iron. We continue on the blazed trail
but there was lots of underbrush and weeds in the way.
Shortly after that we reached a covered picnic area. The
group was very rude by pointing out a wide clear trail that ran
adjacent to the overgrown trail we just followed. We ate
lunch and Saki took lots of pictures of stinging insects
that were building nests. We followed the creek for a little
bit and then ascended to the ridgeline. Th!
e fog had burned off and the sun was out. It was a good
thing because we could enjoy the nice views from Buzzard Rock
on the way back. Three people got stung by bees but other
than that we made it safely. It was a fun 16 mile hike.
