Write Up:
Talk about a great day. The weather and the hike was great. 23 of us took a leisure walk on the Gold Mine Loop Trail. This trail was left over from the gold fever that struck the area after a Union soldier discovered gold flecks in a stream. Gold mining operation took place from 1865 to 1939. From the trail, we passed over the remains of a prospecting trench and an old abandoned mining building.

We visited the Great Falls overlook. The water lever was pretty low. We then stopped at the Visitor's Center and watched couple of rangers dressed in period clothes demonstrated the operation of the locks. Wow! Was that ever exciting.

We then hiked back. The organizer didn't lose anyone and no one got lost. The entire hike was between 6.5 to 7 miles. Then some of us went and got Mexican in Bethesda.
