Write Up:
Barely a week after the area had received over a foot of snow, 16 MOCíers braved the cold for a hike in the McKeldin Area of Patapsco Valley State Park. However, the snow proved to be a non-issue, as the previous few daysí record high temperatures had melted 99% of the snow along the trail. Unfortunately for us, the temperature had sunk back down into the 30ís by the time we started.

We started down the trail at a good pace, in an effort to stave off the cold. The park was deserted for the most part; we only saw a couple of hardy trail runners and a kid and his dad playing on the disc golf course.

After a break to take in McKeldin Rapids, we settled in for a nice walk along various branches of the Patapsco River. Despite all the snow melt in the previous days, the trail was much less muddier than expected. This was good news for the organizer, since he forgot his hiking boots after specifically recommending to everyone else that they wear theirs.

The final hurdle of the hike was a steep ascent out of the river valley; a couple of hundred feet via stairs and switch backs. A short half mile brought us back to the parking lot, where we said our goodbyes and quickly jumped in the cars to get warm. All in all, it was a nice winter hike. Thanks to everyone for coming out!
