Write Up:
It turned out to be a nice day for a hike in central Maryland. It also was a day after the 143rd anniversary of the battle, but there was little evidence of any big brouhaha about it--as is typical of (and enjoyable about) Antietam, there were few visitors to the park alongside us. Our jaunt around the park took us mostly on the touring road, from the northern end at the Cornfield, down by Bloody Lane, and then to Burnside Bridge. We had to dodge a few cars, but otherwise we had the park mostly to ourselves. When we returned to the visitors' center, some of the group headed home while a few got together for a late lunch at the semi-official MOC restaurant in Frederick, Brewers' Alley. It was a good way to end a nice day.
