Sat, Aug 20 2005 - 30th Annual Virginia Wine Festival (View Original Event Details)|
|Participants:||Leo Seung, Kate Copanic|
The event dropped down to two people, but what can we say…we’re devoted to wine. Starting off with some coffee, we hit the road around 9am. Took about 1hr 45min to get to the wine fest. We started off with some great wine from the wineries: Farfelu, Peaks of Otter, Williamsburg, James River, Shenandoah, and Veritas. We decided at that point to take a lunch break. We enjoyed Italian sausage and crab cake sandwiches while sitting and listening to the live music. After lunch we headed back into the crowd to try wines from: Hillsborough, Barboursville, Afton Mountain, Grayhaven, Horton, Hill Top Berry, Rockbridge, Chateau Morrisette, and Keswick. We were not as impressed with our afternoon wines as we had been in the A.M. It was a very hot day and the sun was starting to take its toll. We decided to stop walking around; we committed to getting a bottle of wine we had both enjoyed (Niagara by Horton Cellars) and took a seat to listen to the live music. Occasionally throughout the day we had to take pit stops in the “rain tent”…very refreshing. We left the festival around 4:45 and returned to Columbia around 6:30. Despite the low turnout, it was worth the trip!!
