We met up at Habana Village in Adams Morgan at 7 PM, to place our "Cuban cuisine" food orders before heading into our beginner's salsa dancing lesson. We ordered some drinks while waiting, including their famous Mojitos.
At about 7:40, through 8:40, we took lessons from a professional instructor on the second floor of Habana Village. We learned several salsa steps, the susie-q, and combinations, before learning to dance with a partner. Every minute or so, we would rotate partners down the line. There were about twenty people in the class in total.
The men learned to be a "bookshelf" while the women learned culture tips, to remember to let the man lead, loosen up, and keep our eyes on the man, even if his eyes roamed!
The class ended up being a lot of fun. Many of us determined we have two left-feet, but by the end, we're getting some of the basic moves down. I think it's going to take a lot of practice and repeat classes to get really good.
When the class ended, our food was ready for us downstairs. We gathered around a bunch of small circular tables pushed together...and chowed down! I think everyone really liked their food.
Overall, it was a great event and a great crowd!
