Write Up:
The rain was not only coming down, it was pounding with force. We could do nothing but humbly accept it, slow down. and focus.

Fortunately, we also were in the shelter of our cars, about 20 minutes away from the trailhead. Cell phones rang, with anxious participants wanting to know if the hike was still going to happen.

Twenty fearless hikers made it through the rain and arrived at the trailhead. By the time we got to the parking lot, the showers stopped. The trail was a little muddy and the views were clouded by fog, but there was no reason not to hike.

We started with a gradual 1,000-foot climb to Chimney Rocks. Most of us were already drenched with sweat, but got a little more wet when another shower came. This shower was pretty short and subsided by the time we were finished our lunch.

After lunch, we could've cut short the hike and began the loop, but we were enjoying ourselves too much to turn around. We took a brief detour before getting back on the Appalachian Trail, but found our way. It was then a couple turns on old forest roads. By the time we began the descent along Tumbling Run, the sun was starting to poke through the clouds.

Tumbling Run proved to be a very nice reward after our tough climb to Chimney Rocks. It was a gentle downhill to a shaded area near a nice flowing stream. There were no dunking heads or dipping feet in the stream, as we were already pretty wet. A couple little lizards joined us for a little bit. Originally, we thought they were geckos but no one was really sure.

Most of us celebrated the hike by going out to eat at the Cozy Restaurant in Thurmont. They cater to everyone there, as you could get a meat, vegeterian, or dessert buffet. Some of us enjoyed all three.

Thanks to everyone for coming out and I hope you had a great time!
