Write Up:Beautiful weather, thirteen miles in the deep forest, a couple
of nice views, and an excellent turnout--there's not much
more you could have asked for!
Most of us got to the trailhead nice and early. Since Ted was
familiar with the area, he led some people out to the shelter
three miles in. The rest of us caught up soon afterward. Late
introductions were done on the shelter's deck and the leader
went over some of the complexities involving the privy at
Blackburn Center.
Right before the Blackburn Center there was a pretty good
view--many hikers relaxed with their lunch there, while others
went down to the Blackburn Center to refill their water
supplies. A nice group of Potomac Appalachian Trail Club
volunteers were there to greet us.
This time of year, it was pretty rare to have a day with little
humidity. Perhaps that explains why we completed thirteen
miles in a rather impressive six hours.
The event was capped off with a fun dinner at one of the
MOC's favorite establishments--Brewer's Alley in Frederick.
After a couple cold drinks and a satisfying meal, it was time to
go home and plan future MOC events!
Thanks to everyone for coming out and I hope you had a
good time.
