I would like to extend my gratitude to everybody who came
out for the Whiteoak Canyon hike. It was a beautiful day,
sunny with a bright blue cloudless sky. There were lots of
folks out enjoying the weather and scenery. Some people
were packing up their campsites along the trail while fellow
hikers and backpackers were going by.
We climbed up Cedar Run, cut over on the Whiteoak Canyon
fire road, and descended Whiteoak Canyon. We saw
beautiful waterfalls and took pictures. There weren't very
many odd critters around. There were a couple of caterpillars
(one was all white), and I saw two walking sticks doing
something to each other on the trail. I picked them up so they
wouldn't become 'trail-kill'. Lisa was nice and distributed
brownies in the parking lot. Unfortunately, I had to decline
because I'm watching my figure.
The cool people decided to eat at Applebee's in Warrenton.
As we were waiting in line, Keira (a.k.a. Gazelle) showed
everybody a piece of paper that was under her windshield
wiper blade. Up is heaven, down is hell, and it asked if you
know which one you are going to. Since Keira tried to remove
the piece of paper while driving and she was the only one in
the group to get one, I think we know the answer. Also, we
found out that Josef's nickname is Slim Jim. He brought a
chunk of sausage with him to snack on during the hike. We
had good food and a good time. Unfortunately, the drive back
to the Vienna Metro Parking lot was tough because there was
a hillbilly concert at Nissan Pavilion and Route 29 was
backed up, Caresse was nice and left a message on my cell
phone about it.
