Write Up:
We began the trek up the mountain, and Barry took the lead as the geography and cartography expert. With few breaks we hiked for more than two hours up the mountain to White Rock, where we stopped for lunch. We perched just downhill from the windy peak.

Joanne offered cookies to all her good little hikers (in exchange for good feedback). At that point we decided most of us wanted to hike to the top of the mountain, so we resolved to do just that. Before the ascent, a few from the group decided they were not up for the challenge, so they waited while the overachievers continued up the mountain.

The descent from the top proved very steep and challenging along the orange trail. After joining the rest of the group we took the white trail back down to the base of the mountain.

Tired, hungry, and ready for a round a drinks, we piled into the cars to go to Bassetts Restaurant in Poolesville (we couldn't wait for the folks from the moderate hike, at the bottom as planned). At Bassetts we ate an early dinner, while waiting for the moderates to arrive. They showed up soon after, and we all mingled briefly following the meal.

As we left Bassetts it began to snow. Yes, snow in mid-March. It was a nice touch to a lovely day of hiking.
