Sun, Apr 3 2011 - Walk Among the Cherry Blossoms! (View Original Event Details)|
|Participants:||sarah sarah, Judy House, Ali Badii, Michelle Dacey, Mark Coleman|
We had great weather and blossoms! However, we started by back tracking. The large race (15,000 runners) that had started at 7:30 stopped us from crossing the road. Since no one was into Frogger, we back tracked to Constitution Ave. and down to the Lincoln first, then over to the blooms. The walk down the Reflecting Pool was full of construction. We passed through the Korean Memorial, which was very interesting. From where we hit the Tidal Basin and Cherry Trees we had to add a bit more to the walk because we'd have missed the oldest tress. But the group was great with it.
Folks did not schlep bag lunches so we had a group discussion and ended up with hot dogs and cokes and sitting on benches across from the Smithsonian Castle. (Food on the Mall is not great, especially for vegetarians unless you're into beer, soda, chips). The total distance was about 4 miles over 2.5 hours. There were good conversations, and it was a nice day.
Thanks to all of you, Sarah
Feedback/Comments: Kamesh - I called him from the launch and he had meant to call but didn't, he didn't come.
Learned- races do bother plans, and not back tracking makes for a batter leader...
It was fun.
