Write Up:
Such a beautiful day for a fall hike! A dozen of us assembled Sunday morning at the Holtwood picnic area and began the trek after dropping off three shuttle vehicles at trail's end. We took my preferred route, which starts by hiking along Kelly's Run trail to the Susquehanna River. From the river we next ascended to "The Pinnacle", where we took our lunch. After the break, we resumed by trekking northward on the Conestoga trail which eventually descended to the mouth of scenic Tucquan Creek. From here it was just a matter of hiking upstream alongside the creek to finish the journey. An unexpected snag confronted us, however, just at hike's end. An old footbridge had recently been taken down and no replacement was yet installed. This resulted in one more stream crossing than anticipated, and since there were few stones placed in useful spots it was mildly challenging for tired hikers. At least 3 or 4 folks dunked a boot, but there were no major soakings and then we were back at the shuttle cars. As usual for this area, the scenery was terrific. Thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed it along with the great weather!
