We gathered in the McKeldin Area of the Patapsco Valley State Park under a cloudy and dreary sky. After brief introductions, we started off along the trail. A gently descending trail through the woods brought us down to the Patapsco River. After following the course of the river briefly, we climbed a short ways to view the McKeldin Rapids.
After a short lunch break by the rapids, we started off again through the woods, again following the course of river. By this time, the clouds had retreated and the sun made an appearance. The group wandered through the forest enjoying the fall colors and dodging the occasional mountain biker. We spotted a box turtle on the path - our only wildlife sighting of the day.
Finally, we made our way out of the river valley via a short but steep section of the trail. After a well deserved break, we set off on the last section the trail, this time sharing it with a few horseback riders. Two and a half hours after we started, we made it safely back to the cars. After a group picture, we all went our separate ways. A few of the more intrepid MOCers even decided to explore the rest of the park and set off on a bonus hike.
Thanks to everyone for coming out!
